The British tabloid the Daily Mail, known as Mail Online, \u00a0has become the biggest English language newspaper destination site in the world. \u00a0It is growing quickly in the U.S., with a 30 percent \u00a0increase over last year, and monthly unique visitors up to 36,4 million, according to comScore. \u00a0 That growth has come with a mix of punchy gossip and striking photography and graphics. \u00a0 \u00a0Its aggressive reporting on celebrity news has rankled some of its subjects, as demonstrated with its take-down of a story on George Clooney’s fiancee, which is reported today in The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Last month in Cannes, we interviewed the new CEO of the Mail Online’s U.S. operation Jon Steinberg, who joined from BuzzFeed where he was CEO. \u00a0 \u00a0We spoke with him about plans for growth in the U.S. including more hires \u00a0The publisher has 160 employees in the U.S. at present. \u00a0We have republished the interview today.<\/p>\n
