To make things easy for brands during the extravaganza that is the annual Digital Content NewFronts<\/a>, DEFY Media has condensed its advertiser offerings to three options: buy, badge, build.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make it easy that when they see our shows, they know how to work with us,\u201d says DEFY Media CMO Andy Tu.<\/p>\n

Buy consists of brands placing media at the show or channel level, while Tu likens a badge opportunity to Cold Hard Facts on ESPN. \u201cWe can do turnkey, easy integrations,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Build is for marketers interested in one of DEFY\u2019s<\/a> brands, which include SMOSH, Screen Junkies and CLEVVER. \u201cBring your brand to the table. We can do custom content together,\u201d Tu adds.<\/p>\n

In explaining the content creation process at DEFY, Tu<\/a> says the company doesn\u2019t spend a lot of time trying to figure out the perfect label for its audience.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe call them young people because we think it\u2019s what\u2019s most fair. When you talk to a young person they don\u2019t like the idea that \u2018I\u2019m Gen Z or I\u2019m Gen X.\u2019 They feel individual and unique.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s DEFY\u2019s goal to create \u201cstandout worlds where they fit in but can stand out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Like other youth-oriented publishers, DEFY tries to keep pace with the rapid emergence of platforms and monetization options. It\u2019s long been invested in YouTube, where it\u2019s one of the biggest programmers, and as others pop up \u201cour goal is one, how to we build the biggest addressable audience and how do we turn them into a business.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company’s biggest growth platform with regard to growth for video distribution this year has been Facebook, on which it does \u201ca couple hundred\u201d each month that are unique to the platform.<\/p>\n
