\u201cWe have a roadmap that takes us through essentially a 1.5 release and it\u2019s going to go even beyond that,\u201d Dan Aversano,\u00a0SVP, Ad Innovation & Programmatic Solutions at Turner, says of OpenAP in this interview with Beet.TV. \u201cWe have some very big, progressive and we think exciting ideas that we look forward to telling the marketplace about as we move through 2018.\u201d<\/p>\n

OpenAP<\/a>, whose founding partners are Turner, Fox and Viacom, was designed to bring consistency to audience targeting in terms of how segments are defined and the data being used. Right now, Nielsen and comScore data are the options.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut in the future, we firmly see that expanding based on marketplace demand,\u201d says Aversano<\/a>.<\/p>\n

OpenAP users can on-board first-party data, \u201cWhich is actually I would say the biggest trend we\u2019re seeing. The most sophisticated advertisers and agencies are moving that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

One challenge in particular that OpenAP users face\u2014the process of matching first-party data in the platform\u2014is something that will improve with time, according to Aversano.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make that process easier, faster, more cost efficient. Right now matching first party data can take a little bit of time. It can also cost a little bit of money,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

OpenAP is strictly for planning purposes, not for buying inventory. \u201cThat\u2019s today. Who knows what tomorrow holds.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once OpenAP users create audience segments they wish to target, they can use the platform to share those segments with Fox, Turner or Viacom. Buying negotiations take place in the traditional fashion. Information about campaign impression delivery then shows up in the OpenAP platform.<\/p>\n

Turner is working with beta products \u201ca little bit outside OpenAP\u201d to map audience segments across digital delivery venues, \u201can FEP, potentially OTT and potentially even VOD when and where we\u2019re addressable,\u201d says Aversano.<\/p>\n

Noting that TV audience fragmentation is being driven by media sellers, he believes the onus is on them \u201cto build an advertising ecosystem and advertising products that enable us to consistently re-aggregate that audience and use data to drive value.\u201d<\/p>\n
