One of the main purposes of FreeWheel\u2019s recent NOWFRONT<\/a> event was to formally announce FreeWheel Media, its new media sales division. The \u201cnow\u201d is a reference to educating the market on \u201cwhat you can do today\u201d in the advanced-television space,\u201d says FreeWheel Markets GM Neil Smith.<\/p>\n

While FreeWheel has long built and maintained a technology platform connecting its publisher customers\u2014mainly TV programmers and MVPD\u2019s\u2014with media buyers, its media sales team will now give publishers access to additional demand for their inventory.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been selling media for a few years, but we\u2019re really looking to raise awareness that FreeWheel Markets has media sales division,\u201d Smith says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have two missions,\u201d he explains in this Beet.TV interview. \u201cFirst, building the marketplace platform for television where we can connect any buyer and seller to transact on premium video. Two, we also are a media sales organization that brings unique and differentiated media solutions to marketers.\u201d<\/p>\n

He notes that the media ecosystem has \u201ca lot of entities that talk about future states\u201d and \u201cthere\u2019s still a long road to go,\u201d but there\u2019s plenty of value to be derived from the current state of advanced TV as it relates to reach, audience unification and media accountability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very much a thought leader in thinking through some of the challenges of linear and digital convergence, audience measurement and attribution across all screens,\u201d Smith says. \u201cWe want to showcase that and showcase some of the partners we\u2019re working with to drive the leading innovative solutions in those areas.\u201d<\/p>\n

FreeWheel considers itself to be a \u201ctechnology anchor\u201d for premium TV and video. With its supply side platform, publishers can execute in a direct-sold, insertion-order manner and \u201calso execute with a degree of automation\u201d in programmatic mode.<\/p>\n

With FreeWheel Media, those same publishers will have access to additional demand while having \u201cthe most amount of control as possible as to who\u2019s able to monetize their inventory and under what conditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
